Introduction
Our initial documentation is the rear concept document that can be found at the SourceForge project pages under the File section. The concept paper also explains some of the internal workings in more detail.
ReaR comes with a man page and also some further documentation and guides in /usr/share/rear/doc.
Currently supported features:
- Backup with Tivoli Storage Manager, QNetix Galaxy
- Restore Linux system environment (including LVM, Software Raid, etc.)
- Output to ISO image, PXE environment or USB media
- i386 and x86_64 supported
- Backup/restore with NFS and CIFS and other network file systems
- Tested on CentOS, Fedora Core, SuSE Linux, Debian 3 and 4 (more testers are welcome)
These things wait for sponsors or developers:
- More Backup software: Legato Networker, HP Data Protector, BACULA, Arkeia, Backup Exec, ...
- More integrated backup methods: rsync, tape (Incl. OBDR), CD/DVD ...
- Support for non-i386 hardware (initial tests on ia64 are ongoing). The others would need some work (and sponsors)
- Deployment mode
Please contact us if you want to participate or sponsor the development.
